iPhone release date in the UK

I was trying to dig around to find out when the iPhone will be released in the UK. Turns out that the official word at the launch was that it would be available in the US mid-2007 and in Europe and Asia in 2008. However, I also came across this post that reports that it should be shipping in UK in October. Just in time for my birthday!
