A great use of ultrasound

I don’t tend to blog much about medical technology, but I did come across something that was interesting, especially for us blokes. It’s about prostrate cancer, which is the second most common cancer diagnosed in men. A lot has been written about prostrate cancer, but not being a doctor, a lot of it just goes above my head. I’m more interested in whether a treatment exists and what it’s about. Typically, this involves surgical treatment and operations are fraught with hazards and complications.

Well, I came across a pioneering treatment by Dr Bert Vorstman called HIFU which stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound which is a non-invasive therapy that doesn’t involve radiation and has lower side effects than traditional treatments.

It’s interesting to see new technologies develop in spheres I’m unfamiliar with. Who knows, it may affect my quality of life one day!
