I had posted previously on this blog about an online gaming company called Bet365 poker. Well, it’s funny how once you find out about an organisation you sort of notice when you spot something in the news about them. Well, today I came across this press release:
WSOP Heads Up – Become the Last Man Standing at bet365
For poker players that prefer heads up play, bet365 are offering another route into the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. If you have the skill and stamina to compete in bet365’s thrilling heads-up series you could be rewarded with a package to the WSOP Main Event in July worth $14,000.
The heads-up form is poker at its purest: two combatants head to head trying to outwit the other for cash or glory. bet365’s WSOP Last Man Standing offers both: the glory of being crowned the best heads-up player at bet365, and the chance to win a $14,000 WSOP Main Event package!
Qualifying for the WSOP by playing heads up is also a very convenient way to play. Instead of sitting in a tournament for hours on end with hundreds of players, the heads up game is a lot shorter and consequently much more convenient for the poker player.
In this challenging series you can buy in at any level from 1 to 9 from as little as $4.40. It’s simple: beat your opponent and progress to the next round. The series will end when only one player remains – the Last Man Standing. Further details can be found on the bet365 website.
bet365 will guarantee one $14,000 WSOP Main Event Package for every 16 players at Level 10, and will seed the prize money. That means guaranteed extra value, something that bet365 are renowned for.

OK, I’m not into poker myself, but it’s great to see a company growing at the rate that bet365 are. Online gaming is one of the markets that the Isle of Man is trying to pursue, but bet365 (as you can see above) is licensed in Gibraltar, a different jurisdiction. On a personal level, I also find it interesting that Malta is doing quite well in attracting egaming invesment, even though their off-island links aren’t as good as the Isle of Man (I believe).
It will be interesting to see how long this remains the game of smaller jurisdictions. As time goes by and more money flows into the market, larger countries are getting more and more interested and I feel they will soon make a play to try and get a piece of the action. Currently small jurisdications have the upper hand because they have the legislation in place required by gambling companies to operate. But larger counties have better infrastructure and a larger workforce for these companies to use and I feel that if they really wanted to attract that sort of business, then companies will move to were they can reap economic benefits.
Time will tell
