Stop Documenting, Start Experiencing

I came across a great post today on HBR called Stop Documenting, Start Experiencing.  I guess I’m as guilty of this as the next guy (ok, maybe more), but it has become quite a trend in our lives that instead of enjoying something beautiful, we want to snap photos of it and share with our peers. It struck me recently that experiencing things through a lens reduces our enjoyment of it, so I’ve started taking less photos and watching more.

The article goes into 3 reasons why we’re obsessed with hoarding information:

  1. We’re wired to hoard
  2. We crave acceptance from our peers
  3. It’s now easier than ever

There’s some good stuff in there, so it’s worth a read.

What about you? Do you enjoy what you’re doing? Or are you obsessed with sharing it?
