He’s a particle physicist who has been on TV many a time, and you can tell why by watching his lecture. It was quite interesting to listen to a science lecture that has been toned down for all to understand. Anyway, WiManx were there to stream the event so that it could be seen by others who were unable to go to the event.

The lecture was followed by a session with the NASA astronaut team who piloted STS133, the last Discovery Space Shuttle mission. There are some amazing snippets they brought with them to show including a farewell reel to the Space Shuttle. Definitely one to watch if you have an interest in Space.

Here’s a brief description of the device:

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world’s largest and highest-energy particle accelerator complex, intended to collide opposing beams of protons (one type of hadron) charged with high energy. Its main purpose is to explore the validity and limitations of the Standard Model, the current theoretical picture for particle physics. It is theorized that the collider will confirm the existence of the Higgs boson, the observation of which could confirm the predictions and missing links in the Standard Model, and could explain how other elementary particles acquire properties such as mass.

The device has been turned on but it won’t go into operation till the 21st of October. In the meantime, get your very own “I survived the Large Hadron Collider Experiment” T-shirt.
