I was watching Jenn twitter about business cards a few minutes ago and it reminded me that I needed to get myself some more “blog business cards”. *blush* Ok, I’ll admit it, this blog has business cards. It partly stems from the fact that my blog URL or blog name isn’t really memorable; but some time back I had used Vistaprint to make some free cards for the blog, so that I could just give them out to people when I talked about it. They proved to be a great success, but I eventually ran out and need to make some more.

Free cards you ask? Well, yes, Vistaprint do them as a promotional offer. All you pay is the shipping for them, and they do have Vistaprint’s details on the back; but they were great for what I wants them for. You can pay a bit extra and clear the advertising details, and they still work out to be quite cheap. They also do rubber stamps, full colour postcards and anything else you may need to help market your company, so it’s worth keeping them in mind, especially if you only want a small run of materials

Anyway, if you want your 250 free cards, you can get them here

I just came across a website that promises free Antivirus software. While technically this is correct, in essence what you get is a 6-month trial to Norton Anti-Virus. Don’t get me wrong, Norton is a great product (here are some reviews), but a 6-month trial is usually the sort of thing that gets you hooked on a product, then forces you to pay a yearly subscription.

Bottom line is, watch out when someone offers you a free lunch. While there are free anti-virus products out there (AVG for example), it’s quite easy for someone to offer you something that appears free, but is not really so. Always make sure to read the fine print!

If you run a blog or a website, then you’ll know that traffic to your site is the lifeblood that your project needs. Without visitors it’s a bit of a moot point building a site, and visitors help contribute material and ideas that improve your projects. However, driving traffic is also one of the hardest things to do. There are millions of websites out there, why sould people come and visit your. The answer, as always is the content you put on it.

But sometimes content just isn’t enough. It nice to let people know when new material is added to the site, when there’s something new to see. And this is where services like Zookoda come in. Zookoda is a blog email service that lets you set up a newsletter for your readers. Readers can subscribe to the service and get daily, weekly or even monthly alerts of new material that has been posted to your blog. It lets you manage your newsletters and also your subscribers (anyone who’s tried setting up a mailing list in the past knows just how hard it is to keep it clean and current). And the great thing: it’s FREE!

This is definitely a service I’ll be rolling out to all my blogs, so keep your eyes peeled for it. Soon you’ll be able to subscribe to any new posts and get them delivered straight to your mailbox!

Business cards are a fact of life when meeting colleagues, clients and suppliers. They’re a useful way to propagate your personal information and credentials, while also a useful way to store and categorise your contacts. I got thinking today about how they started, so I decided to do some research.

Turns out that business cards were derived from calling cards or visiting cards which originated in China in the 15th century. These made their way to Europe in the 17th century where they became an indispensable tool of etiquette. By the 19th century they became an essential accessory for anyone established in society.

Interesting huh? Nowadays everyone can make their own business cards. You can either go to a printer who could make them for you at a reasonable charge, or you could buy your own stationary and make your own. There’s lots of guides around the web about how to get your business cards for free. The most important thing however, is to realise that these cards have a lasting impression on the people you give them to. Going for an inferior product can have a negative impact on your reputation with a corresponding effect on your business opportunities.

So, whether you decide to make your own, get some free business cards or buy them ready made, make sure you go for the best you can get. It’s worth it in the end.

It’s interesting to watch companies around the world trying to shop bloggers some love. First we have Microsoft giving free laptops to people, and now a number of other companies are trying the same technique to encourage reviews and comments from people all around the world and try and take advantage of The Long Tail.

Today I came across one being run by Pingo who are offering absolutely free International calling cards online to all bloggers who link to their site. All they require is that people add a snippet of code to their website (basically a comment they they are receiving a free 4-hour international perpaid calling card in return for a link to Pingo’s website) and Pingo will send them a free card. No strings attached. Not a bad offer I must say, and one that will appeal to anyone who likes making calls and prefers not paying for them. If you’re interested, check it out, but hurry: it’s only for a few more days.

Pros and cons? Well, it gets the world talking about a particular product or service and spreads the buzz, however it also opens the organisation to bad reviews, comments and publicity. Personally I think it’s a great idea, but only to be attempted by those who have the utmost confidence in the excellent of their product.
