Third Thursday this month has come a bit earlier than I expected (15th), but that means it’s time for us all to meet down at Paparazzi for some grub and a natter. Yes, it’s Social Media Club lunch this Thursday!

For those who have never been, it’s an opportunity to catch up with your online friends and socialise in a casual environment. We usually end up chatting about all things social media related, from new social networking sites, to the perennial gadget debates; from best practices in social media for wok purposes, all the way interesting links we’ve come across recently.

It’s an open event that anyone can attend. Just pop down to Paparazzi in Douglas at 12:30 and come find us sitting in the corner. I’ll be a bit late this month, but @ProgramX has kindly agreed to meet and greet. Hope to see you all there!

Third Thursday is upon us, and as you may already know, Third Thursday is Social Media Thursday. And this month Thursday is going to be even more fun than ever. Here are the reasons why:

• Social Media Club lunch is on. It’s an informal lunch for people interested in Social Media. You may use it for work, for personal reasons or to promote your hobby, but if you’re interested in how to use Social Media, and are looking to network with your online friends and acquaintances, come and join us for lunch at Paprazzi at 12:30. Anyone can come, and bring your friends along
• We have a local celebrity visiting us for lunch. Famous tweeter @zoegillings (I believe she’s also known for her snowboarding prowess) is coming to lunch! We don’t have anything formal organised, it’s just a friendly chat over lunch, but it’s a great opportunity to meet her and hear all about what she’s up to.
• And if lunch isn’t enough for you, local podcaster and social media whiz Derek Richardson is the CMI’s speaker in the evening. They’re holding an event titled: Social Media – Captivating the Digital Domain and it’s open to anyone to attend.

It’s that time of the month again! Yup, this Thursday is the 3rd Thursday of the month and it has become a regular fixture in the calendar of every tweep, facebooker and blogger on the Isle of Man (Well, some of us anyway ). We meet up for a social media lunch, which is an excellent opportunity to get some face-to-face time with people you normally meet online. This month is no exception and we’ll be meeting on Thursday 18th November at Paparazzi in Douglas at 12:30.

It’s a pretty informal arrangement and open to anyone with an interest in Social Media. It’s a great opportunity to hear the latest news, both global and local; and spend some time in the company of like-minded people. Whether you’re using Social Media for work purposes, as a hobby or even for pleasure, you’re welcome to join us. So, if you’re a regular, come along and meet some old friends; if you’ve never come before, just come down and join us and make some new friends; if you’re new to social media, come join us and learn.

It’s Third Thursday again this week, and as it has become our custom, time for a group of people interested in Social Media to meet for a nice lunch and discuss what’s going on in the Social Media world. Whether you have a passion for blogging, or just a passing interest in Twitter; it’s an opportunity to meet like-minded people to share ideas and learn a thing or two.

So come and join the Social Media Club at Paparazzi on the 21st October at 12:30. It’s a pretty fluid arrangement: people turn up, we order some food and swap stories about the latest news, things we’ve done that month or even things we’ve seen other people do. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a hardcore Microsoft fan, or whether you’re just starting out in PR; Social Media is impacting both our personal and our professional lives, so come join our little party.

It’s open to anyone with an interest in Social Media and we’re always happy to see new faces. So don’t be shy, just pop in and say “Hi!”. See you on Thursday!

So, what’s happened since our meeting last week? Well, Google has changed, Twitter has got even bigger and a couple of Manx tweeps have bought tablets and Kindles. There’s lots to talk about, whether you’re a Twitter veteran, brand new on Facebook or just curious about Social Media and how it impacts YOU.

Couple of interesting things to do in the evening this week if you’re based in the Isle of Man:

• BCS – Marine Communications and IT – The talk will cover the challenges of getting reliable communications to and from a moving target somewhere on an ocean! Areas to be discussed include the superyacht IT, the on-board network, satellite communications, airtime provision, real-time tracking and future developments in marine communications. 20th April – More details here
• JCC – Supplying the Isle of Man – An interesting panel discussion about Utility provision in the Isle of Man. Allan Bates, managing director,  Manx Gas, Chris Hall, managing director, Manx Telecom and Ashton Lewis, chief executive, MEA will each discuss their businesses on the Island, their current success and challenges and future trends.  And all three are happy to answer questions from the floor. 21st April – More details here

I’m actually planning to be at both, so if you’re planning to be at either talk (or both), come and say hello!

Contrary to our original plan, we’ve decided to have a Third Thursday meetup this month in a similar fashion to our usual ones. It’s an informal meet-up at Paparazzi at 12:30 on Thursday 17th December, for a pizza or some pasta with all our usual Social Media Club friends. If you’ve been before, you know the format; if not, come and join us and we’ll bring you up to speed.

The aim of our Third Thursday meet ups is to provide a focal point for people interested in Social Media on the Island. Whether you’re new to Twitter or been using Facebook since the first day it became available, it’s a great place to come share ideas, learn new tips and tricks and learn what’s new in the online world. It’s also a great venue to put a face to people you follow or interact with online. @sherrilynne has a great meeting lined up for January, but this will be an informal meetup just to have a quick catchup before Christmas.

Next Thursday is the Third Thursday of the month and for a group of us that means a Social Media Club. It’s normally organised by Sherrilynne from Strive, but she’s on holiday at the moment, so she asked me and @DerekRichardson to set it up.

So, what’s Social Media Club all about? Well, it’s a gathering for people interested in Social Media. You may have just been introduced to Facebook; or you could have a thousand followers on Twitter; or maybe you want to find out what blogging is and whether your company should be doing it. Social Media Club is an avenue to meet people with a common interest, share experiences and discuss the latest and greatest happenings in the Web 2.0 world.
