The Isle of Man section of the BCS is organising a talk this Thursday (19th March) about Podcasting. Here’s the blurb:

This talk is aimed at demonstrating the technology and toolsets behind podcasting and to give an opportunity to learn more about the media and how it may apply to you, whether in a personal or professional capacity. It will include the recording, editing and publishing of a podcast as well as a short talk about the applications podcasting can be used for. Our speaker, Derek Richardson, is an avid podcaster who produces 2 podshows on a regular basis, The Sound Republic Podcast and The SACM Podcast. He’ll be walking us through his techniques and talking to us about his experiences in this innovative sphere.

It promises to be a great talk, particularly because of the hand-on element and Derek’s experiences. The talk is aimed at everyone, from those who don’t know what a podacast is and would like to learn; all the way through to those who have listened to podcasts and would like to create their own. Again, there’s no segment limitation, so, whether you’re hi tech software firm or just sell bathroom safety products. Come and enjoy it with all of us.

We normally meet up on the Third Thursday of the month, but this time was special as it was on the Fourth Thursday; lucky for me otherwise I wouldn’t have managed to make it. Here are some photos from the evening:

It was a great evening, even though we did end up talking about diets and treadmills at a point. Here are some of the things we talked about:

  • ManxWiki: A brand spanking new Manx social initiative to get as much information about the Isle of Man, its culture and its people on one website. Anyone can edit the pages, so if you spot anything missing, just go ahead and add it.
  • Is blogging dead? Excellent post by Nathan about Wired’s article about the demise of blogging and rise of Tweeting.
  • Switched On Podcast: Derek podcast show in South Africa. I still have to catch him doing his IOM show with Three FM, but radio isn’t quite the medium for me

There was lots more we talked about but you’ll have to come and visit us next time on Thursday 20th. Unfortunately I won’t be making this one, as I’ll be graduating in Edinburgh on that day!
