Well, sort of new anyway. It’s a second hand Jaguar S-type which is just lovely. We haven’t quite got rid of our BMW yet but we will be doing that shortly. The Jaguar doesn’t handle as nicely as the BMW does (it’s a 328i with a sports kit and literately sticks to the ground); in comparison the Jag feels like a bit like a fat cow, but it’s more family friendly and has a more stately ride.

It has a few cool gadgets, but there’s scope for improvement (as always). Thing about buying a second-hand car is that you don’t get to choose what extras it has. It would have been nicer with one of those wood dash kits or with a built-in GPS, and there are no missile launchers to get rid of slow drivers. But it was relatively cheap, and it has 4 doors (which means it’s easier for Arthur to get in and out), so it fits our requirements ;)

The premise is quite simple. Instead of throwing away a broken car, selling a heap of junk or just abandoning it somewhere, this company will take your car, recycle it and donate the proceeds to charity. They are a registered charity and will even generate the right paperwork so you can claim tax back on your donation.

I must say that it’s a novel idea that I haven’t seen anywhere else. I’m sure there’s money to be made in the recycling business, but this company ha an edge, in that it adds the feel-good factor that at least some of your cash is going to a good cause. The website doesn’t say much as to what sort of value to expect for your vehicle, but something is always better than nothing. If you have a car you’re thinking of disposing of, check them out

Since Camille’s car got sold on eBay, and the we received the insurance money for mine, we’ve been looking at getting a replacement car. We originally decided on a Renault Megane Sports Saloon, but then I spotted a 2nd hand car which looked like it could fit the bill.

It’s a BMW 328i Sports Coupe with a factory-fitted M3 kit, full leather interior and lots of funky extras; Has a nice number-plate too ;-)
