Blog performance

Posted by: Owen on Monday, 3rd Dec, 2007

This blog has been getting slower and slower, probably because of the myriad of plugins I have running on it. I’ve been thinking of ripping them out, which would mean I’d miss some functionality. I particularly like the flags that FireStats adds in for example, and the Gravatars on my comments, however, performance is a [...]

How Javascript can hinder rather than help

Posted by: Owen on Wednesday, 15th Aug, 2007

Have you ever waited ages for a website to load? If so, you may have been a victim of Javascript-induced lag (JIL). Ok, I just made that up, but you would probably have been a victim of it at one time or another. There’s an interesting discussion on Read/Write Web (echoed by BlueBlog), that talks [...]

Found this on Darrell Norton’s blog …
Speeding up Firefox seems to be a meme going around the blogsphere lately. Most of the tips I’ve seen, though, are only for broadband connections with the latest hardware and only include some of the settings that would affect performance.

Pirates of Penzance

Posted by: Owen on Monday, 25th Oct, 2004

Went to watch Pirates of Penzance this weekend, put on by the Julian Light Operatic Society in Ealing. I must say that I quite enjoyed it, especially as it was the first Gilbert and Sullivan operatta I’ve ever seen. Yes, shame on me. One thing I can say after having seen it; thank goodness I’m [...]
