Worldwide Telescope: Take a tour of space
Posted by: Owen on Tuesday, 13th May, 2008
It seems like WorldWide Telescope is now available for people to download by Mac and PC users around the world. It’s a pretty heavy application so make sure you have a decent PC to run it on. It needs 1Gb of RAM with 2Gb recommended, 1Gb of hard disk space (10Gb for offline viewing) and [...]
Interesting news day
Posted by: Owen on Thursday, 8th May, 2008
It’s funny how some days there’s nothing interesting in the news and some days a whole bunch of different things capture your attention. It’s a bit like playing craps in one of these vegas hotels, you never know what you’re going to get! So, here’s what I found interesting:
Specs of Facebook’s Profile Redesign - interesting [...]
Microsoft playing catchup again
Posted by: Owen on Tuesday, 4th Mar, 2008
The news that developers will be able to create offline Silverlight applications “eventually” made me chuckle this morning. Microsoft seems to be getting better and better at missing the boat with new technology and producing something that’s a couple of years behind it’s competitors. Their main two contenders in this space are Google Gears and [...]

promoting data portability

The Lone Server
Posted by: Owen on Friday, 11th Jan, 2008
Today I came across an interesting viral marketing campaign that Microsoft have embarked on. It’s the story of The Lone Server, which is allegedly the last Windows 2003 server that Microsoft are using now that they have switched all their other servers to Windows 2008.
Oh, and The Lone Server even has a Facebook and LinkedIn [...]
Microsoft looking to buy a chunk of Facebook?
Posted by: Owen on Tuesday, 25th Sep, 2007
I’ve just read an article in the Wall Street Journal that almost sounds as speculative as a Search Engine Marketing blog. It talks about how Microsoft is try to acquire a stake in FaceBook as part of their ploy to wrest Internet dominance from Google. Now I’m not sure what WSJs articles are normally like, [...]

After month of testing, it’s nice to see that Microsoft have finally pushed BizTalk 2006 R2 out to the world. Here’s the blurb:

Google makes Microsoft change Vista
Posted by: Owen on Wednesday, 20th Jun, 2007
Interesting news today about how Microsoft is having to modify Vista to make it easier for third parties to deploy their own desktop search products on their flagship operating system. This will be part of SP1 for Vista and should be ready to be released through their normal software distribution channels. This change was instigated [...]
Microsoft vs The Little Guy
Posted by: Owen on Wednesday, 6th Jun, 2007
Have you ever used TestDriven.Net ? If you’re unaware of it, it’s a Test Driven Development enhancement for Visual Studio written by Jamie Cansdale. And Microsoft thought that it was such a great product, that they even awarded him their MVP - Most Valuable Professional - an award for the “exceptional technical community leaders from [...]
Some technology news
Posted by: Owen on Wednesday, 30th May, 2007
Some days you wake up and find that there’s so much new technology around that it feels like you’ve been sleeping for a month. Today was one of these days where both Google and Microsoft have something new to show. But first, a titbit from Mitel tech support. Apparently, there’s been some issues getting their [...]
Microsoft cries foul
Posted by: Owen on Monday, 16th Apr, 2007
It seems that Microsoft is screaming blue murder about Google’s $3.1 billion acquisition of Doubleclick last last week and are calling regulators to look into this. Interesting how Marketing Pligrim points out that late-Friday announcements are generally negative. Maybe they had a hunch that some people may not have been too happy with this.
Update: *chuckle* [...]

Posted by: Owen on Monday, 29th Jan, 2007
I saw a photo presentation a friend of mine (Michela) made while she was on holiday here in the Isle of Man and found out that she used a free package from Microsoft called Photo Story to make this. Fine, I said, I’ll download this and give it a try. I popped to the download [...]
