What costs more: the printer or the ink?

Anyone who has a printer probably know the answer to that. And it seems that the cheaper the printer is, the more expensive the ink for it is. If you’re buying a printer for yourself, or even for your business, you need to keep mind the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) of the printer, not just the initial acquisition cost. Try and figure out how often you’re going to use the printer; and also whether you’ll be creating mostly black or colour prints. You can use this print estimate to figure out the printer ink cost and what the running costs of your printer would be.

But what can you do if you already have a printer and are finding the cost of running it exorbitant? Well, there are a few options around from where you can get your consumables. There are a number of kits on the market that can help you refill cartridges, but anyone who has played with one of these will attest to how messy they are. So, how would you go around getting cheap printer ink for your printer? Well, there are a number of companies out there that specialise in selling refilled cartridges. They are a great way to get your hands on cheap ink cartridges which can really bring down the running cost of your printer.

Refilled ink cartridges usually just consist of the exact same cartridges that your printer uses. They collect used cartridges, recondition them and fill them up with fresh ink. Then they sell them for a fraction of the price of an original cartridge. So, you’re really getting exactly the same product, except that that someone has used it before. In a way, you’re recycling cartridges and that’s a good thing. We all know that the less resources we use, the better for the environment it all is.
