Following the great talk we had about podcasting today by Derek Richardson, I was looking online to see what sort of media equipment was available online. I came across a really interesting device that I haven’t seen before.
The Belkin TuneStudio 4 Channel Audio Mixer is an impressive device that hooks right onto your iPod, well, or rather you can hook your iPod onto, depends on how you look at it. Anyway, it’s a 4 channel mixer that lets you record directly onto your iPod. It’s ideal for bands or audio engineers on the road or if you need a quick mixing device. It can also output straight to a PC if you don’t want to get it onto your iPod. Each channel has a 3-band EQ and pan and level controls. Here’s some technical details for anyone who’s interested.
High-quality Phantom-power-enabled XLR inputs provide up to 60db of microphone gain and a high-quality stereo compressor with makeup gain enhances audio dynamics and keeps audio levels within the recording limits of the iPod. Compression is controlled by a single knob. The TuneStudio features LEDs to indicate master audio level, power status, peak indications, and compressor.
It looks like a great piece of kit, especially if you play in a band and want a device you can use to mix tracks on the fly. It comes complete with software and all you need to get started. Oh, and it’s on sale at the moment, so worth checking out.
