I spent this evening working on a machine belonging to a friend of mine. It’s been bluescreening (BSOD) on Startup and Safe Mode restarts after loading Mup.Sys. Turns out this is a bit of a false reading as Windows proceeds to load and allocate resources after this and that’s what causes the issue. I did find a great thread about the subject, but nothing I tried worked.
Anyway, while messing around I came across a great article about how Windows Recovery Console works which I thought I would bookmark for posterity. It’s a must read for anyone trying to restore a system.
Anyway, I’m giving it a rest for the night and will continue tomorrow. Hope it doesn’t end up with a rebuild …
