Facebook goes large

The news in the press today is that Facebook has just acquired Parakey. For those who haven’t heard of Parakey before, they’re an outfit working on closing the gap between the Internet and your desktop. The founders of this “Web-OS” company are Blake Ross and Joe Hewitt,? the two people responsible for bring us? Firefox. These? two individuals will definetly provide a substantial boost to Facebook’s capabilities and market credibility.

There’s some debate about whether the company was acquired for it’s work or just for these? two individuals, but there is no doubt that Facebook has grand plans. Techcruch even goes as far as comparing FaceBook to Microsoft. I don’t quite see them heading down that way as I believe Microsoft’s model is really inefficient but think that any new organisation will carve out it’s own niche in it’s own way. Should be fun to watch.
