Working from Home

Do you get to work from home? Well today I had a bunch of documents to review, so I decided to work from home. There’s pro and cons to this (as always), and these are the ones that affected me most today. The main thing was that is was great to be able to work at my own pace with no interruptions from anyone. There were the usual MSN messages of course, but I can always turn myself off there; while if someone pops by your desk at work there’s nothing much you can do, but interrupt what you’re doing.

The main disadvantage is that it’s a challenge to keep yourself motivated. Okay, I was reviewing documents which is probably the 2nd most boring thing in the world (after writing documentation, which beats everything in terms of boring stuff), but it’s really easy to just get up, walk to the fridge to grab something to munch on, or turn on the TV, or just do stuff around the house.

So, what “technique” did I use? Well, I split the day into section, worked for 2 hours at a stretch, got up and did something different for 30 mins to an hour, then got back to the grind. I ended up doing more work than usual, and I’m also more relaxed; so I think I should do this more often!
