Back in the Isle of Man

I’m in the Isle of Man again at the moment, on an interesting assignment with one
of the government departments here. They’re working on a massive consolidation exercise,
aiming to provide a centralised approach to their IT services and enabling eGovernment.
I’m here on a Standards and Best Practices piece as they move forward to enable customers
to access their back-end systems directly.

I’m surprised to say, I’m starting to enjoy this sort of work more than
development. I suppose it’s all part of growing up. While sitting alone in a room,
crafting some code is still magic to me, I get more of a buzz bridging the gap between
technology and business teams. I’ve been wrestling with this for some time now, whether
to go down the technology or the business route. However I’m starting to feel like
there might be scope to straddle both paths. We’ll see what the future holds ..
